Why couldn't katniss mother take care of katniss and her sister?

Katniss took care of Prim because their mother was too depressed to care care of her.

∙ 11y agoBecause she was so upest about her husband's death she spend most of her time in a rocking chair spacing out :( so katniss had to take care of prim and she had to make sure they had food and water.

∙ 11y agoBecause after Katniss's father died in a mine explosion, her mother was so shocked and depressed that she zoned out and was completely unresponsive to almost everything, leaving an 11-year-old Katniss (at that time) to take care of herself, her mother and her 7-year-old sister (at that time)
