Why did Adam ant call himself Adam ant?

Adam has given two different stories as to how he decided upon this name. In one story, he said he was sitting up on a roof and, while looking down at the people below, had the thought that everyone looked like ants rushing around in lines. He thought about how strong an ant was and their characterisitics, and that this is how he came up with his name. Another time he said that when he was in a mental hospital, tied to a bed, a cockroach crawled over his belly. It was a horrible hospital and he hated having to be there, and he became 'adamant' at that point to never have to return to one. He broke up the word 'adamant' into Adam Ant, and rechristened himself. It's unclear whether both stories are true or not, they could both be true. But these are the answers he's given in the past to the question.
