She keeps a secret for a number of reason. (Caution Spoiler Alert) 1st reason: In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Its shown that when Lily got her letter that Petunia wanted to go with her so she sent a letter to Dumbledore asking if she could go but unfortunately she was denied because she didn't have any magical powers. 2nd reason: She was secretly jealous of her sister after that. 3rd reason : She thought that Uncle Vernon would think she's a loon so she kept her mouth shut.
