Hume also accompanied Sturt in 1828, and became one of the first Europeans to discover the Darling River. The Hume highway, which links Australia's largest city, Sydney, with the Australian capital, Canberra is, of course, named after Hamilton Hume, as is the Hume Weir on the Murray River.
