Why did Harry Potter kiss Ginny?

In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Harry is on his way to the Gryfindor common room from having a detention with Snape on the day of the Quidditch finals. He walks into the common room to see everyone celebrating because they won even though Harry, being the captain, wasn't playing. He sees Ginny running up to him she wraps her arms around him and without thinking Harry kisses her. After that they go out until after Dumbledore dies Harry breaks up with her cause he thinks hes putting her in danger.
