Why did Lindsay Lohan dye her hair?

According to theslap.com her character (Cat) dyed her hair magenta because of red velvet cupcakes, but in real life the directors said to play the role of Cat she had to dye her hair that color. The director, Dan Schneider, didn't want all the characters to be brunettes.
She died her hair because of her character on Victorious. Dan Shneider (the creator) didn't want a full cast of brunette's, so he told her to dye her hair. he picked the color "red velvet" because cat loves red velvet cupcakes.
