In the story, Percy Jackson and Perseus are two different characters. Percy is the modern day son of Poseidon and a mortal woman named Sally. Sally named Percy after Zeus' son, Perseus, because he was one of the very few demi-gods that had a happy ending. She hoped it would bring Percy good luck.
