How did the Lake-men and Bard approach Thorin and the dwarves?

Most of the population of Lake Town think the dwarves are going to kill the dragon Smaug, and so treat them with kindness, hoping to get a share of the treasure. In fact all the dwarves do is annoy Smaug, who flies down the mountain and destroys Lake Town. Smaug is eventually killed by Bard.

Who fought in Battle of Five Armies and what was the outcome?

The Battle of the Five Armies started as a face off between the armies of the Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield and Dain of the Iron Hills, the Men of Long Lake, led by Bard, and the Wood Elves, led by their King. They all had some claim to the treasure in the Halls of the King under the Mountain, recently freed from the possession of the dragon Smaug, whom Bard had slain, with Bilbo's help. As they were about to fight, due to Thorin's enormous love of the treasure, and complete unwillingness to consider any other claim, an enormous army of Goblins showed up. To some degree, their attack had been kicked off by the slaying of the Great Goblin by Gandalf, plus their desire for the treasure. Once the Goblins showed up, the Elves, Dwarves, and Men joined together to fight the common foe. After that battle had been engaged for some time, and was not going well for the forces of good, an army of eagles showed up and tipped the scales against the Goblins. So I guess that in the end, the desire of the Dwarves to gain back their lost home in Lonely Mountain, and win back the treasure of their fathers was the primary cause of this battle.

What treasure does Bilbo take from the dragon and why?

Because the dragon had taken the treasure from the dwarfs, so they wanted to reclaim as much of it as they could.Answer:Tolkien's dwarves are patterned after the Germanic and Norse dwarves. It is the nature of such dwarves to want as much treasure as they can get and keep it, this is much the same as the nature of dragons. Unlike dragons who saw the possession of gold as a good thing in itself and mostly sat and slept on their huge hoard, dwarves were skilled metal workers and viewed the treasure they hoarded as valuable for both its intrinsic value and its role as a raw material for their metal working. The magic of gold and jewels were essential for the amulets and weapons they produced.

Why isn't beorn interested in the dwarves' tales in the hobbit?

The dwarves are interested in (as dwarves are wont to be) tales of gold and treasure, and Beorn, having little use for these items - - he has everything he needs - - is not interested in material wealth.

What is the cycle of the black dwarf star?

There are no "cycles". A black dwarf star is the final stage of a white dwarf - a white dwarf that has cooled down so much that it no longer emits significant amounts of radiation. The Universe is currently too young to have black dwarves; white dwarves are expected to become black dwarves in the far future.

There is no mention of brown dwarves in Tokien. He does mention 'Burned Dwarves'. At the Battle of Azanulbizar there were too many dead to bury so they heaped them all and burned them. A 'Burned Dwarf' was greatly honored in Dwarf-lore.

Are there black dwarfs in space?

No. This is the hypothetical final stage of a white dwarf, after it cools down so much that it doesn't have a significant amount of energy left. This cooling down takes a long, long time, and white dwarves have not yet have the time to cool down that much (that is to say, the Universe is too young yet to have black dwarves).
