The "Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire" went off the air in 1996. The last episode had 2 parts. In part 1, Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian announced that they were selling the mansion and wrapped around the assumption that Hilary and Ashley were moving to New York and sharing an apartment. Jeffrey moved back to England to be with his son, (which was featured in an earlier episode). Carlton was moving. While all this was going on, Will felt left out because he was the only one not doing anything with his life, so he lied and said he had an apartment. On the 2nd part, of course the secret was finally brought out that Will lied and Uncle Phil helped him by finding him an apartment. The last part of the episode was very emotional. It showed everything out of the house, everyone saying goodbye. Will was left alone. Finally, Carlton came running down the stairs yelling, "Who turned the lights out?" Will said the closing line, "C- I'm definitely going to miss you." Now, to answer the original question: "Why was the Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire cancelled?" It's more simple than the series finale. Will Smith wanted more than just a sitcom. He wanted to pursue a movie career as well as become more involved in his family life because by then, Jada was in the picture and his 2nd son, Jaden, had been born.

Because it was filmed in 1996. Will Smith is much older now and doesn't have time to film it anymore, due to all of the other movies that are filming now that are featuring him.
