When Voldemort gave him his mutant hand, he didn't tell him that the hand was "cursed", in a way. When Wormtail was choking Harry in Malfoy Manor (Deathly Hallows), Harry reminded Wormtail that he owed him for sparing his life in the shrieking shack (Prisoner of Azkaban). Because of this, Wormtail let Harry go. However, when he did this, his own hand turned on him, and, even though Wormtail tried to stop it, it punished him for his act of mercy by taking his life.

Wormtail, defending himself, attempts to strangle Harry with his silver hand (given to him by Voldemort in the Goblet of Fire), but Harry reminds him that Wormtail owes him for Harry had earlier saved Wormtail's life. Wormtail releases his grip on Harry's neck, and slowly brings it to his own neck. Wormtail then strangles himself to death, because of his realization that he owes his life to Harry.
Answer: Wormtail's magic hand, which he got as a "gift" from Voldemort, strangled him. It was not Wormtail who killed himself. And it killed him for showing a moment of hesitation.
