People enjoy reading the Harry Potter series for many reasons. For some its the chance to escape to a place where fantastic abilities, magic, and creatures exist. For others its because the books are well written, the stories interwoven with each other and the subplots, and the final plot line is a mystery until the end. And for some people, they read it so that they can feel like a part of a group when discussions about the books arise.

It is a well-written and entertaining story. It has realistically depicted setting (even if it is mostly imaginary), clearly delineated characters, an engaging plot, and plenty of vivid detail, with deeper themes to enrich it and give it meaning. Those are the elements of a well-crafted novel. It is not great literature and it is not terribly profound, but it is very well done. It's also a fairly easy read for children, and is appropriate for them, but it's also entertaining for young adults, and parents as well. The entire series is very well written, and so many hints and twists are throughout the books, J.K. Rowling did an excellent job in dropping just tiny hints about something seemingly unimportant, but is later confirmed that it is important-such as mentioning a locket that none of them could open in the 5th one, but then in the 7th one they realize the locket was a horcrux.

Qualities are used to describe people, rather than objects. You might look for qualities in a book though. For example you might want a book filled with suspense.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is entertaining, original, and contains well written characters who develop as the book progresses.

After living with his dreadful Aunt and Uncle for ten years, an eleven year old boy named Harry Potter learns he is a wizard and he is going to go to a school for magic called Hogwarts. There he makes new friends like Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley and learns about a sport called Quidditch in which he plays part as the seeker. He also goes with his friends Ron and Hermione and discovers a three- headed dog named Fluffy and they learn he is guarding something. And they also tackle a giant. But the most exciting event and the scariest for Harry probably is the one when he meets up with Lord Voldemort after ten years. Voldemort was weakened and drained of power the first time he tried to kill Harry Potter and he has been using Professor Quirrell, a servant of his, to help him around. Voldemort is after something called the Sorcerer's Stone. The Sorcerer's Stone will let the user of it live forever. Harry has to fight Voldemort and stay alive as well as protect the stone and keep it away from Voldemort. In the end, he gets rid of Quirrell and Voldemort.

That depends on your own personal opinion. It was well received by critics and the public when it was published.

Scottish newspapers provided the first reviews of the book and complimented both J.K. Rowling's writing style and the storyline. One of them noted that children couldn't put it down and another said that it was thrilling. As it grew in popularity, the book was reviewed by national newspapers and was meet by the same response.

When it was published in the US, most of the well known reviewers ignored it but smaller, specialist reviewers, took in-depth looks at the series and praised many parts of it. Several larger newspapers, such as The New York Times, shared some criticisms about areas they felt were weak, but still praised the book.

The book, and the series as a whole, are much loved to this day. Fans of the series found themselves immersed in a new world with well rounded characters. The plot and characters were interesting to read about. Many think the series has led people to become readers when they otherwise would not.
