Even though the cross dressing story was obviously ridiculous, even well refuted in an Esquire Mag article in '93, the media and Hollywood kept the story alive as if it were fact. Of course, it doesn't take a genius to understand Hollywood's motivation to destroy Hoover's legacy. But the fact is that Hoover was a lot of unsavory things, maybe even homosexual, but he was not a cross-dresser.
