At first you are led to believe that Peeta asks to be coached separately because Katniss scored higher than him with the Gamemakers. Also because of the closeness of The Games. Later you suspect that another reason is because he wanted to talk strategy with Haymitch. Peeta wanted to talk to Haymitch about telling his love for Katniss. After their interviews Katniss is angry because she wasn't told, but Haymitch informs her that it was right that she not know. She needed to act surprised.
