In the very last part of "Huckleberry Finn," Jim tells Huck that his father, Pap Finn, has died a few days ago in the floating house. He also shares that Tom Sawyer has been shot in the leg while escaping Jim Turner's gang, but is expected to recover.

Huck wanted to write a letter to Miss Watson, informing her about Jim's whereabouts and offering to return him in exchange for money. However, Huck ultimately tears up the letter because he decides to help Jim escape slavery instead.

Jim thinks that Soloman has a lot of kids, therefore when Soloman offered to cut the baby in half in the story of the two mothers, Jim thought Solomon actually wanted to kill the baby and just didn't care. Huck tries to reason with Jim that Solomon had his reason and didn't really want to kill the baby, but Jim was stubborn and insisted that Soloman wasn't a wise king, but a fool.
