I'm sure at first they had only film making in common. Burton took a chance on a young actor with no training and little experience save but a TV police show. It think we can all agree, it turned out quite well.
After more than half dozen projects together Depp considers Burton more family than friend. They both enjoy a unique 'spin' on the world, a little off-beat, but entirely enjoyable for us movie-going crowds around the world. They most definately are a part of each other's lives.
