Why does everybody like Ian Somerhalder more than Paul Wesley?

If you are referring to why does everyone like Damon more than Stefan I can't speak for everyone but this is my answer:

Damon is the bad-boy type that every girl secretly loves. He's mysterious, sexy, and yes, definitely dangerous, oh yeah and did i mention SEXY? He doesn't play by the rules and instead of being repulsed by himself (like Stefan) he spends his eternity trying to have as good a time as possible. Because of his, ahem, diet, he is also infinitely more powerful than Stefan. In the books, he is one of the most powerful vampires left on Earth. All this, on top of the fact that Damon is willing to do anything at all to be with/protect the girl he loves make him completely irresistible.

Stefan, on the other hand, is a lifeless character. In the first season, he is a cookie-cutter Edward Cullen type with very little in his life besides Elena, and the whole self-loathing thing gets old after about 1 episode.

People like the actors better because they associate them with their characters, and Damon is clearly the superior choice :)

I love Ian Somerhalder more than Paul Wesley because obviously he is the hottest. Also Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are like the best couple ever. Plus Damon Salvatore he is so awww, I mean he would do absolutely anything for Elena and it is really sad and unfair that his brother Stefan get everything an he gets nothing. Like Rose said Damon is either the best thing for Elena or the worst. I think he is the best thing for her. Damon and Elena have so much fun together, well Damon is the funnest brother. He is so much more fun than Stefan. Even thought you could say Damon is a total man whore for sleeping with so much people I think he should get a chance to be with the one person he truly loves. ~ Scarlet

Paul Wesley is okay, I guess but obviously Ian Somerhalder is better.
