The other kinsman refuses to marry Ruth because he realizes that doing so would jeopardize his own inheritance. He is concerned that marrying Ruth, a Moabite widow, could complicate his family line and diminish his estate. Additionally, he is likely wary of the social stigma attached to marrying a foreigner, which may have influenced his decision. Ultimately, this reluctance allows Boaz to step in and fulfill his duty as the next of kin.

There was a famine in the era of the Judges. A prominent man named Elimelech went to wait out the lean years in the neighboring land of Moab, with his wife (Naomi) and two sons. The sons married Moabite women and later died, and Elimelech also died.Naomi decided to return to Israel, and her daughter-in-law, Ruth the Moabitess, accompanied her with the intention of converting to Judaism. The two were penniless, and supported themselves by gleaning grain (Leviticus 23:22) in other people's fields. Naomi advised Ruth to glean in the field of Boaz, since he was a relative of Elimelech.Boaz commanded his field-workers to be considerate toward her.Naomi, seeking a husband for the young Ruth, sent her to Boaz's threshing-floor when he would be there, in the hope that he would want to marry her. Boaz informed her that there was another relative who, according to custom, had prerogative to redeem Elimelech's field and marry her. The next day, the other man refused to take Ruth, and she and Boaz were married.More information:Ruth was a superlative servant of God.Naomi and her family had sojourned in Moab during a famine. Ruth, a Moabitess, became Naomi's daughter-in-law. She had had a long stretch of time during which she observed Naomi's righteousness, and she (Ruth) became convinced that she must serve the One God and abandon her former idolatry. She went on to become so righteous that God made her the ancestress of King David.See also the Related Links.Link: The JudgesLink: More about the Hebrew Bible

Mrs. Putnam believes she knows what Ruth was doing in the woods because she suspects that Ruth was participating in witchcraft or some form of supernatural activity. She connects Ruth's strange behavior and the mysterious illness of her other children to the events in the woods. Additionally, Mrs. Putnam has a strong desire to find someone to blame for her misfortunes, which fuels her interpretation of Ruth's actions.
Mrs. Bergen suspected Ruth was stealing food because she noticed items missing from her pantry and had seen Ruth frequently searching for food. Additionally, Mrs. Bergen's past experiences with other children who had stolen food may have influenced her perception of Ruth's behavior. This suspicion led her to confront Ruth, highlighting a lack of trust and understanding between them.
Boaz
Kinsman redeemer was a culture practiced in the Nation of Israel's and other communities. In the event that a man got married and all his sons who would carry the family name died then man in his clan who was next in line would marry into that family. That man would assume the name of the dead man so that the children that he bore would be named after the man who had died. In the book of Ruth,Boaz married into the family of Naomi and became the kinsman redeemer. In the book of Gen 38 when the elder son of Judah died, then the second born married Tamar so that he could bear children to his elder brother. When he died before he bore any sons then Judah asked Tamar to return to her home until the other younger son was grown and she could marry him. The seraphim and cherubim are servants of God, but not human. They are on the order of angels, therefore are not in the "line" of humans. In other words, they cannot redeem because they are a different "species" than man. The kinsman must be human to redeem, as is shown by the story of Ruth and Boaz. Boaz redeemed Ruth's inheritance by marrying her. On the same vein, the Kinsman Redeemer must be human to redeem mankind. Since the first human made the sin, the sacrifice must be made by the "Son of Man". This is the reason for the geneology in Matthew, to prove that Jesus was the "son" of Adam.

The English translation "kinsman redeemer" only appears six times in the Bible. All of these occurences are in the hyphonated form, and all of them appear in chapters 3 and 4 of the book of Ruth in the Hebrew Scriptures. The same Hebrew form appears in Leviticus regarding inheritance of possessions; in Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and 2 Samuel regarding restitution for wrong; and in Isaiah regarding the redemption of the Lord. Only the Ruth passages, however translate the Hebrew form as "kinsman-redeemer".
