Many possible reasons. A few basic ones are...

1. Low on coolant.. or could be a sticky/defective thermostat.. or a cap that doesn't seal tight.. or a leak (do you see any coolant dripping?? Those would be my first checks.

2. Could be the electric fan(s) are not working. Do you hear/see them come on??

3. Could be your radiator is plugged up after this many years. If this is the case, you will need to have your radiator rodded out by a radiator shop (usually about $75 if you take the radiator out yourself and take it to the shop). If the reseviour is made of plastic, it may or may not be roddable and need to be replaced (about $120 or so).
