She was never sure she was going to win and she certainly didn't want to lose. There's probably no one more conceited than Katharine Hepburn. She always wanted to be the most fascinating person in the room. Which is why I think she didn't show up for the first time and in following years, she chose not to.

She was very consistent and never attended an Academy Awards show whenever she was nominated. Her lone appearance at the ceremony was on April 2, 1974 when she presented the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial award to producer Lawrence Weingarten. She received a standing ovation and then quipped: "I'm living proof that a person can wait 41 years to be unselfish."

How did Jefferson demonstrate the changes he planned for the US government?

When Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated, he vetoed traditions and formal ceremonies of bowing, and instead he insisted on a casual inauguration. This showed that he wanted change in America, and that he wanted to begin new traditions, and get rid of formal ceremonies. I hope I helped!! :) -Shelby Nameless

Why are ceremonies important?

Ceremonies give people necessary structure to an event. Specifically in various religions, ceremonies add realism to the event and give it a more concrete feeling than just getting together and drinking some wine and bread. Ceremony is on a par with tradition, and its easier to tell people to do something if you can utilize the statement: "This is how we've always done it"
