J.K. Rowling took time and effort to decide what Harry's personality should be like, and loyalty just happened to be one of them. When someone has a certain quality, that is just who they are. You can't help it.

"Experience" could be a part of the answer, too. All that Harry went through in his life gave him the urge to be kind, not wanting anyone to go through specific things he had.

If you haven't noticed, J.K. Rowling held great distinction in her characters and writing. It was almost perfect.
