Why is Harry Potter popular?

The short answer is that Rowling is a good writer. But, in slightly more detail, classic stories tend to have components in common:

• A young, good, smart hero.
• An elderly mentor who trains the hero.
• The elderly mentor dies before the hero completes their mission - usually seen as a destiny.
• An evil enemy.
• The hero has a best friend.
• There is a heroine who will fall for the best friend.

Stories with these elements date back to the ancient Greeks. The original Star Wars film had these elements, the Harry Potter series had the same - in fact, it was possible to predict Dumbledore's death as the elderly mentor has to die so the hero completes the mission by himself.
Harry Potter is cool because the books make people want to read them even though they have many pages.

• Well the character, I don't love so much but if its the overall book then well the fantasy part is what I love. The story line is extreme but totally unique in a cool way. Also I like the twists and how most things turn out alright. hm. I love harry potter because its so interesting.

I think that Harry Potter is so popular because it is funny, lovable, creative and there are a load of 'fittys' on the cast

I personally hate all witch craft/vampire/spells involved movies. But its popular because there is a series and most series go off the shelf. But, its about spells and wizards and I'm guessing that's in style right now?

I personally think that it's popular because its quite an engaging series and has a gripping storyline. Its beautifully written and a pure joy to read.

I love the Order of the Phoenix because i loved the action in the ministry also when voldermort and dumbledore battle off with nonverbal spells. I like it because of the big wand battle and the (in the book) walk to the train station with "Padfoot" and cat's

I read them because the first book was my birthday present. After I enjoyed it I received the first four as a xmas present then I bought the rest when they were released.
