Yuji Naka has explained that 'Robotnik' is his real name, and Doctor Eggman is an alias that he goes by, so it's not an insulting nickname other characters have for him, it's something he himself uses, and he uses 'egg' for the names of some of his machines, such as the Death Egg and Egg Emperor.

He got replaced by a different version of himself, so at the same time he is not dead. So pretty much Robotnik is still around.

Will they make a new sonic character for shadow?
I hope so because to me shadow needs to learn to love, and earn her love in return just like beauty and the beast let's wait, and see. (To me I think it's maria robotnik that he cares the most from 50 years ago but now as a hedgehog as his form like they made as a unlockable character from sonic crisis, and this story from deviantart called the return of maria robotnik but I wish they that story a sonic the hedgehog movie.)
