A monorail is just a one rail train above us instead of on the ground. It runs like a normal train except there are two wheels facing each other that run on either side of the rail. The rail and wheels have to be very strong to hold up the train thing itself, as well as its passengers.

The Greek prefix mono means "one", so the monorail is a train that has only one, central rail instead of two as with other types of trains.
