Edgar Ætheling should be considered for the position of king due to his royal lineage as the great-nephew of King Edward the Confessor. His bloodline gives him a legitimate claim to the throne and could help maintain stability and continuity in the monarchy. Additionally, Edgar's potential as a unifying figure among the Anglo-Saxon nobility could help prevent further conflicts and power struggles within the realm.
Edgar the Aetheling's chances of success in claiming the English throne after the death of Edward the Confessor in 1066 were quite slim. Although he was the rightful heir and had some support from the nobility, he was only a teenager and lacked military experience. Additionally, the swift arrival of William the Conqueror from Normandy, coupled with the disunity among English nobles, severely undermined his position. Ultimately, his claim led to little more than a brief period of resistance before William established control over England.

Prince Edgar the Ætheling's claim was that he was the closest blood relative to King Edward. In fact, apart from Edgar there were no other male members of the House of Wessex (the royal family) alive in 1066. Edgar was the great-nephew of Edward the Confessor. Harold II may have been descended in the male line from Æthelræd I, King of Wessex (865-871AD) but this has never been proved.

Edgar Aetheling died at the age of 75.
They would be Harold, Edgar the AEtheling, and William the Conqueror.
King Edgar the AEtheling became king of England after the Battle of Hastings. William the Conqueror had him deposed a few moths afterwards and then took the crown himself.
He had to prepare for the inevitable Norman invasion. He was one of 4 people who wanted and believed the throne was theirs: William Duke of Normandy, Harold Hardrada, Harold Godwinson and Edgar Aetheling. Although Edgar was only a boy at the time but in ruling of strict primogeniture should be King. He was waiting south for the Norman invasion when the Vikings invaded near York
Harold Godwinson, Harold Hardrada, William the Conqueror, and Edgar Aetheling, although he was immediately ruled out because he was a minor.
Harold Godwinson (1022-1066) ruled England as Harold II for just 40 weeks in 1066 (January 6 to October 14) before being killed at the Battle of Hastings, which established William I (William the Conqueror) as king in December of that year. Harold's rival for the throne, Edgar the Aetheling, was proclaimed king, but not crowned, in the intervening two months.
because he was too young Evan though he was the closest blood relative.
prince Edgar should not be king because many people thought he was to young to lead England. although he the great-nephew of edward the confesser and was a descendant of the Anglo-Saxons most impressive king, Alfred the great and really was the legitimate heir to the English throne.
As usual, there is no simple answer. William was victorious at the Battle of Hastings (14th October 1066), following which he later claimed that he personally owned all of the land in the country. About two weeks later he was finally accepted as king by the supporters of Edgar the Aetheling who was "king" after the death of king Harold. Willam's actual coronation took place on Christmas Day (25th December) 1066, so that was when he "received the crown."
Edgar is elder.
Robert Stattel played Edgar in the 1968 Broadway production of King Lear.
