The country was left in a lot of debt and was having problems with religion as the previous monarch (Bloody Mary) decided that Catholicism would be the only religion in England. Elizabeth brought the country out of debt, did not require people to be Catholic, won the battle against the Spanish Armada, organised the ships that voyaged off to find new land and played a large part in making England one of the most powerful countries in the world.
