Juan de Fuca was a Greek sailor who conducted exploration voyages for Spain in the 16th century. He explored the western coast of northwestern North America.
The Strait of Juan de Fuca varies in width, ranging from approximately 13 to 24 miles (21 to 39 kilometers) across. It separates the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State from Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The strait serves as a critical maritime passage connecting the Pacific Ocean to the inland waters of Puget Sound and the Salish Sea.
The Juan de Fuca Plate is located off the northwest coast of North America, primarily beneath the Pacific Ocean, extending between the Cascadia Subduction Zone and the Gorda Plate. The Scotia Plate is situated in the Southern Ocean, between South America and Antarctica, encompassing the Scotia Sea and surrounding regions. Both plates are tectonic plates that interact with neighboring plates, contributing to geological activity such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The Juan de Fuca Strait was formed by tectonic plate movement along the Cascadia Subduction Zone where the Juan de Fuca Plate is being subducted beneath the North American Plate. This process has created a deep and narrow waterway between Vancouver Island in Canada and the Olympic Peninsula in the United States.
We actually know very little about Juan de Fuca, including his actual name (which was NOT "Juan de Fuca", since he was probably Greek). There certainly doesn't seem to be any overwhelming evidence that he was gay.
