The biggest littlun in "Lord of the Flies" is Percival Wemys Madison. He is described as one of the older boys among the littluns, but still smaller than the older boys in the group. Percival is often seen crying and struggling to cope with his fear and anxiety on the island.
The little boy who keeps crying in "Lord of the Flies" is known as the "littlun" who is often overlooked and ignored by the older boys on the island. His constant crying can be seen as a manifestation of the fear and helplessness experienced by the boys in their hostile environment.
At the assembly in "Lord of the Flies," a few littluns speak up, including Percival Wemys Madison and Phil. Percival shares his name and address, while Phil talks about a "beastie" he has seen on the island.
The littlun Phil held the conch and spoke quite confidently about seeing something 'big and horrid' moving among the trees. The littlun Percival burst into tears and eventually Piggy and then Jack had to relate aloud to the rest of the boys what he was saying.
Percival revealed to the assembly that he knew his name, but was unable to remember it due to his fear and anxiety. This lack of identity and the overwhelming pressure from the group caused him to break down and burst into tears.
Percival Wemys Madison is the name of the littlun who first approaches the naval officer in Chapter 12, Cry of the Hunters. He is overcome with fear and only manages to respond with his name, class, and school when asked for it.
Percival
Apart from revealing his name and address Percival also revealed that 'the beast' lived in the sea. This put an instant end to the laughter and teasing of the older boys. As Maurice pointed out, "Daddy said they haven't found all the animals in the sea yet."
To quote directly from the book... The littlun Percival had early crawled into a shelter and stayed there for two days, talking, singing, and crying, till they thought him batty and were faintly amused. Ever since then he had been peaked, red-eyed, and miserable, a litttlun who played little and cried often. Percival had obviously been told that should he ever become lost he should recite his name, address and telephone number an that would enable him to be returned to his home quickly. Clearly marooned on a tropical island his incantation had failed to get him returned home. As a result he seems to have had a breakdown. Later, in chapter 5: Beast from Water when he is asked to speak during the meeting the other boys laughter caused him to turn to tears, no doubt reminding him of his earlier breakdown which the other boys had found 'fainly amusing.'
There are actually three littluns who mention the beast during assemblies. The littlun with the mulberry coloured birthmark on his face spoke at the second assembly. Piggy had to kneel next to him and relay what he was saying to the rest of the boys. He mentioned seeing a snake-thing and asked what they were going to do about it and whether it would return the next night. In chapter 5:Beast from Water two littluns also spoke about the beast. Phil spoke confidently of seeing something big and horrid in the trees. The littlun Percival cried and his words were relayed to the other boys by Piggy and by Jack. He told the boys that the beast came out of the sea.
