I would love to tell you all the juicy details about the finale! But then Connor would probably not be back for Season 3 (lol)! But what I can tell you is that Connor and Jude will have yet another touching moment, Connor's dad will have to face Connors decision's and something life changing will happen to the Foster family.
You know, I've asked myself that same question many times. And I think it's because Connor is very relatable in many ways - he is flawed, but in the end, kind and real. Kids see themselves in him and hopefully can say 'hey that kid makes mistakes but in the end he did what's right. As teens, we make mistakes, but that doesn't define us - nor does our sexuality. I see fans embrace this attitude in Connor and in return they are loyal to his character and invested in him and Jude's relationship.
That questioning your sexuality is normal. That you don't have to be afraid about what society thinks you should be, and that even if you are questioning yourself now, that doesn't define you. Being a teen is about finding out who you are - and about becoming a good person. If you are constantly judging yourself or thinking you are doing something 'bad' - that can really hurt you emotionally. And unfortunately many teens are hurting themselves physically over this issue, so anything that we can do to helps kids - that is what the show is about. Educating.. breaking down stereotypes.. spreading love not hate.
I actually tested for the role of Jude, and knew that character would be tackling some sort of sexuality issue. But when Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg offered me the role of Connor, Jude's friend, none of us really knew how the character would evolve. Sometime during the end of Season 1, as Hayden and I matured and our off screen friendship grew, is when the idea of taking things past basic friendship arose. From there it took many episodes and discussions to get where we are today - wow, I think 30 plus episodes!
Like I said above - the #jonnor message is about breaking down stereotypes and spreading a positive message that it's ok to question your sexuality as a young teen. Hopefully young men and women who may be struggling with a similar situation can find hope that the world is changing - that acceptance of whoever or whatever they love will accepted as normal.
No, I didn't have a clue! But once I found out, I knew I had to be a part of this important message. Turn on any channel and boy/girl relationships are portrayed all over - but showing a boy and boy who care about each other, who are friends, but also may be attracted to each other - that was a needed representation.
Yes, I was nervous. Kissing a girl in front cameras and crew is also very nerve racking! But when I had to kiss Jude, Hayden Byerly and I talked a lot about it - we knew it was important for many kids - and we wanted to help - so despite being nervous - we made it happen. And I can now say - it was all worth it.
I loved that scene, it was such a great moment! That was one of my first exposures to a social media frenzy, so it was like WOW, this is what social media is all about.
The Fosters fans are so very loyal! They have shared so many touching stories, and have really inspired me to keep getting better at playing Connor. My Instagram fans are insanely creative, they post such great edits and are really dedicated to the show and they Jude Connor storyline.
I think part of Connors relatability also comes from interacting with my fans - I try to answer questions and show support to the fans. Without them.. Connor wouldn't be such an important story line. I don't forget that.
