For what I know, these are the traits of a good scientific observer, or simply a good scientist.1. Curiosity- He is always hungry for knowledge.2. Open-mindedness- He accepts criticisms fairly well.3. Rationality- He does not believe in superstitions and think that everything has a scientific explanation.4. Critical Mindedness & Correct Judgement- He does not easily jump to conclusions but tries to verify his results by (if possible) repeating the experiment.5. Intellectual Honesty- He does not alter his observations and writes the correct observations he has seen.6. Objectivity- He writes accurate results.

When it comes time to conclude an experiment, it is helpful to have a log of all information and observations that could be relevant. The unexpected observations are particularly important in determining why an experiment does not conclude as hypothesized.
Sometimes you can forget what the results of your first test was. It's always good to repeat an experiment more than once, so you can be sure that your tests worked correctly. And, because you should be repeating the tests, you'll want to record the results each time, so you can compare them when you're finished. That way, if something goes wrong, the results will show in which test it went wrong. Plus, if you're doing something for a class, I'll bet you anything that the teacher/professor will want it written down somewhere. Hope this helps!

A chi-square test is often used as a "goodness-of-fit" test. You have a null hypothesis under which you expect some results. You carry out observations and get a set of results. The expected and observed results are used to calculate the chi-square statistic. This statistic is used to test how well the observations match the values expected under the null hypothesis. In other words, how good the fit between observed and expected values is.
It depends on how good your observations are. If your observations are really good then maybe they can lead up to a good prediction but make sure it all makes sense and you reread you obsrvations aloud plenty of times

If you're going to be a detective then you need to be able to find clues and figure out what they mean. That's what making good observations means.
