Which has probably come from water (H2O = 2 hydrogens and 1 oxygen)

This process is called oxidisation, it is the same thing that happens when you have metal that has gone rusty, it has oxidised.

The chemical symbol for iron is Fe, when it oxidises, it steals an oxygen molecule and becomes FeO... Iron Oxide.
