Yes tempered glass makes great heat pads, cutting boards, pastry surface and it will never stain. Basically you can do almost anything on it. Just do not drop it or drop something on it.

Why does the hot water run out in just a few minutes?

The water heater temperature is set too low.

Will it hurt your hot water heater to use all the hot water?

Hot water heaters (tank/storage type) have a supply line connected to your city or well water. The heater is either on or off depending on the temperature you set on that device. You will not hurt the system as it is designed to constantly heat the water until the temperature is raised to your set point. So the answer is that it neither hurts or helps you HWH.

How hot do forced hot water baseboard heaters get?

Only as hot as the aquastat setting on the boiler tells it to get. Or in the case of a reset system where the water temp is reset up or down based on outdoor air temp, only as hot as the reset schedule (which is adjustable) set into the controller tells it to get given the outdoor conditions on that particular day.

How does a 240 volt hot water heater thermostat test for normal operation?

As with any thermostat it is based on where the set point is on the temperature scale. On hot water tanks the thermostat opens the element circuit when the set point temperature is reached. For example the set point should be around 135 degrees F. When cold water enters the tank, the thermostat closes due to sensing a temperature lower than the set point is set at. When the water heats up to 135 degrees the thermostat open because the set point is reached. To test the thermostat shut the power off at the distribution panel for the hot water tank. To do this test the water in the tank should be up to temperature. Remove the wires from the thermostat that is to be tested. Make a diagram of how the wires were connected. Using a continuity tester (ohm meter works fine) place the leads across the terminals where the wires were connected. If there is no reading then the set point is satisfied and the circuit is open. Leaving the tester leads on the terminals, with a screw driver raise the set point to a higher value. The meter should now show continuity between the terminals. Turn the set point down and the terminal reading should open. If this is happening then that thermostat is operating fine. Reposition the thermostat to the original set point. If you are working on the top thermostat now do the same to the bottom thermostat to see if it is working also.See related link below.

How do you carve writing in glass?

There are high speed/turbo hand grinders 300,000-500,000 rpms you can use just like a pencil or pen, (with a diamond bit). Any material harder than glass can be used (Tungsten Carbide, some steels, Diamonds, most ceramics) and are available in many forms. Diamond-tipped scribes can be purchased very inexpensively. They are essentially a ball-point pen case with a diamond set in the tip instead of a writing ball. It is important to make sure that the glass you want to carve is not tempered. Compromising the structure of tempered glass can cause it to fracture violently because of the internal stress stored inside the glass during tempering. Most glass (carving) is not carving but etching. this is done using acid. There is a great deal of information online that will explain in detail how to do this.
