This is known as convergent evolution.An easy way to remember this is that they are converging....which I tend to link to becoming the same.To me this automatically states that they were different organisms to begin with. :)

When comparing earlier and later developments, homologous structures become more refined through time. When comparing common ancestors, we can compare the derivations of a homologous structure between two successors and also between the ancestor and each successor. We thus see several relationships between this and that, from 'right now', 'a little before now' and 'way back then'. For example, we see two species whose legs are very similarly structured, and then we find an ancestor that also possessed such a leg, except it was simpler or shorter or in a different ratio between sections. We can draw conclusions that the later species developed both from this earlier one, and that this earlier one died out, after its successors (which eventually became the newer species) could survive more often because they had better structured legs.

Firstly, please phrase your question in proper english. Did you mean will similar animals converge in an environment which suits there survivability characteristics happily. But yes. Convergent evolution can determine the long-term development of a species and their friends.

When two different animals have to adapt to the same environment (both whales and fish have to adapt to marine environments) evolution will make them start to look similar, even though they will still retain fundamental differences. For example, whales are mammals, and fish are... fish

You may be referring to the similarities between flying squirrels and marsupial gliders. Or the similarities between standards squirrels, and cuscuses of the genus Phalanger. In both cases, marsupials and placental mammals have very similar anatomies, habitats, and diets. This is due to convergent evolution: the two groups of animals are unrelated but have developed similar characteristics because they have adapted to similar environments (woodlands, in this case).
