No, Blizzard wizard does not melt faster than salt... 2 weeks ago I saw a person put down rock salt right next to where I had just put down blizzard wizard & the rock salt melted the ice right down to the black top; BUT it may have had something to do with the temperature out on that day.

Salt is chemically different from blizzard wizard(magnesium chloride). BW does melt ice very well, but I have found at a slightly slower pace, and depending on the temperature out; one may do better that the other on a particular day.

With this said I only buy blizzard wizzard. I plow snow in NY & use it a lot! Bliz wiz is less corrosive to metals then salt... BW is less harmful to masonry patio driveway concrete bricks etc... BW has a brown tint to it so you can see where you've put it down which I like; there's nothing worse than putting down white salt on white snow & turning around for another scoop & going 'where the heck did I just spread it?'

They use molasses to tint BW which sounds really weird, but I think this is the first time in history a chemical company has gone out of its way to use a dye that is completely harmless to the environment. I don't know if you could say the same for the glow in the dark blue ice melt the old ladies buy in the supermarket. BW is way cheaper than calcium chloride & close to the price of salt, although salt is the cheapest.

Here's a suggestion, because I ve been using BW for 3 winters now: get a 5 gallon bucket with a lid & pour the bag in that as soon as you buy it. Keep your spreading cup inside it & your gloves on top of the lid. This keeps mice from licking the stuff & coming around. This also keeps you from getting a big brick of the stuff when it sits in your garage for the summer absorbing the humidity out of the air, and its not all floppy like a half filled bag sitting in the corner.

I dont work for the company I just want to make sure Home Depot keeps carrying the stuff because I dont know what I would do without it. Happy melting.

PS dont be afraid to use a whole bag after a bad storm. An 8 dollar bag or a torn rotator cuff from falling on the ice let me think hmmm... I think I ll take the 8 dollar bag thanks.
