Answer: Depends on how the photographist wants to take the picture.

I would just like to say that this is not a science in the least. This may be correct grammer but it's certainly not common sense. My baby cousin knows why photographists use tripods.

And if you didn't know what a tripod is: A stand up platform resting on 3 legs, usually portable so they fold in, made so that a media device can be attached onto it and make all video recordings or photos completely even/steady.
