Yes and no. If you set a solid ball of ceramic in water, it will sink. If you take the same amount of ceramic and make as large a hollow ball with it as you can, and THEN set it in water, it will float. Anything floats if its weight is less than the weight of the amount of water it displaces. That's why very large ships can be made of steel.
