The particles determine the state by the speed of motion. The motion is changed by the heat or degrees it is for water. When water is frozen to 32 degrees Fahrenheit it changes to ice at the freezing point and the molecules move slower. When ice turns to water at the melting point the molecules move quicker. When water is heated to the boiling point it turns to gas and the molecules move quicker.

Considering the main 3 states of matter, the particles are arranged as follows:

  • In a solid, there are lots of intermolecular forces between the particles/atoms. They are packed together in some form of pattern, with little movement or space between each other.
  • In a liquid, intermolecular forces are weaker. The liquid will also take the shape of its container and flow. This is because the atoms have the ability to move much more freely throughout the liquid.
  • In a gas, intermolecular forces are at their weakest. The atoms are moving much faster and as such, the gases can occupy a greater volume (depending on the pressure and temperature, but that's a separate issue). There is less arrangement of the atoms.

Slow moving particles causes an object to stay solid and unable to move. Fast moving particles cause an object to be a liquid or a gas (depending on the amount of heat on the object). If you add heat or freeze the object the particles will change movement. The particles are what makes the object solid/gas/liquid/plasma.

solids are compact, liquids are a little more spread out, and gases are the most spaced. Solids have rarely any motion, liquids a little more, and gas the most. Forces are strongest in solids, then liquids, then gases.

Well this is a topic quite close to my heart. (Back ground info - I have spent numerous years, in solidarity dedicating my time and efforts to this exact area of expertise)

So heres the basic rundown y'all. Pretty much like if you pack the particles in harder the thing you got at the end of it all will be like harder and that. Or on the other hand if you just chuck them all in a big pot or whatever and just let them skull around they'll be like full fluidy like water you know? But yeh thats pretty much the nature of the beast.

In conclusion, the arrangement, polarity and atomic structure plays an integral role in the state, composition and apparence of any matter.

In solids, the particles are packed closely together and only vibrate. In liquids, the particles are more loose, flow, and can move around more. In gases, the particles are free to move around.

Solid particles have a fixed shape and cannot move, only they can only vibrate.

Water particles can move a little and vibrate they can also be poured because the particles have enough room to move.

Gas particles can move a lot because they have no fixed shape and can move wherever they please.

Plasma also moves around freely.

In liquids, the particles slide past one another.

In solids, they vibrate a bit.
