The best way to get to Mount Everest is to trek.
If you fly from Kathmandu into the mountain airstrip at Lukla you can start from there, and there's the added bonus of some amazing views of the Hilamayan valleys during the flight.
You then trek up to Everest Base Camp, stopping at several fantastic villages like Namche Bazaar, and Tengboche, and you also walk alongside the Khumbu Glacier.
Once you get to the base camp, you get the most amazing views of Everest, and you can make plans for when you want to come back and climb a bit further...
