If something were passed down from parents, that would be inheritance. A mutation is when something goes wrong and causes a change in the genetic structure. Mutations can be caused by radiation or chemicals or mutations can also occur "naturally" when some part of DNA replication or correction goes wrong.

What could natural selection not occur without?

Genetic Variability. What does the first born inherit from mom and what from dad? and the second born is a whole new mixture of mom & dad (this occurs during "cross-over") This is what leaves some siblings being weaker and others being stronger. And since "only the fittest survive", natural selection chooses the best and allows the weakest to die, improving the new "gene-pool" overall!

Why arent children identical to either of their parents?

Because they're a mixture of those parents; some from Mom, some from Dad. Occasionally, a child looks very much like one parent, but this is just appearance; exactly half of you came from each parent.

What does a comma do in a sentence?

What a comma does is replacing the word "and" for example: Me , my mom , my dad , and my sister went to the park. if u look at the sentence the comma is replacing all the and's if i didn't put comma's it would be like this: Me and my mom and my dad and my sister went to the park. and also you can only put and's after let's say u had a lot of comma's and ur at the last person instead of making it me, my mom, my dad, sister went to the park ... at the last person or thing that your making into a list put an "and"

What influence did Isaac Newton's parents give him?

Well, here's the story, his dad, also Isaac Newton, died 3 months after he was born. His mom left him with his grandma, and the mom went off and married a diffrent man, who's name was Barnabus Smith. So from what i told you, he was raised up hating his parents and I guess you can come up with an influence from what i told you.. all I know that it wasn't a good one.

Why is a mutation in a lung cell not be passed on to offspring?

Only the genetic material in gametes is passed on to offspring; genetic material in any other part of the body is not passed on because it is not reproductive. Lung cells are not used to create an embryo. Only gametes do that. ANSWER: The best explanation uses something called a Punnett Square. Basically, you have the father and the mother both contributing half of their DNA. Let's say the father has the mutation. His 'halves' will either both have the mutation, or only one will have the mutation. The mother is going to donate two halves without the mutation. The father will donate one half with the mutation and one without- IF this mutation is genetically transferable. So Dad has normal, Mutated. (n, M) Mom has normal, normal. (n, n) Using the Punnett Square, you can visualize it like this: n M n| nn | nM| |------------| n| nn | nM| Pick one square at random. A child in this case has a 50% chance of having this mutation.

How does a developing baby get half of its genetic material from its father and half from its mother?

Dad contributes a sperm cell- which has half the genetic material, It fertilizes the egg from Mom- which has HER half of the genetic material. They join the two halves to become one whole.
