Alchemy is the predecessor to chemistry. Many discoveries by alchemist (especially their instruments) were later used in chemistry. The key difference between the two is that alchemy was more experimentation and had little bases on science (for instance they would just randomly combine materials in the hopes of making a philosophers stone or elixir of life), relying instead on random practice and mythology. While chemistry utilizes both experimentation and scientific practices. In short chemistry is derived from its primitive ancestor alchemy.
