Gore-Tex was actually made by Wilbert Gore, Rowena Taylor, and Wilbert's son, Robert, in April 27, 1976. The main ingredient in Gore-Tex is made using an emulsification polymerization process which is fairly complex. All you really need to know is that Gore-Tex is made from the same stuff as Teflon, but it has been expanded, thus creating pores. These pores allow air to pass through and your body to breathe, but they are so small that water droplets cannot pass through them.
