The letter "k" is used to denote the metric prefix kilo (1000), which is a metric prefix. you would not measure miles in kilomiles. But if you were to, 50k miles would be 50,000 miles.
There are 1.609344 kilometres in one mile. Therefore, rounded to two decimal places, 50 kilometres is equal to 50/1.609344 = 31.07 miles.
50 kilometers = 31.068 miles

50 Nautical Miles Assuming this is ground speed. 1 Knot is 1 nautical mile per hour. This plane in one hour would have traveled 300 nautical miles. There is 60 minutes in one hour so to find out how many miles per minute, take the 300 and divide them by 60, this gives you 5 nautical miles per minute. To finally get your answer multiply 5 nautical miles times the amount of minutes 10, which gives you the answer of 50.
Since the longitude is the same (75W), the distance can be calculated as the difference between the latitudes. One degree = 60 nautical miles. From 20N to 30S is 50 degrees, so 50 * 60 = 3000 nautical miles.
The number of miles in one degree of latitude depends on how far you are from the equator.
It is generally 5,000 miles.
'unclear from sources' - (Steve tingey UK) posted the following - Carnival cruises would typically leave san juan and take 15 hours to make the distance. The ships actual speed is unknown but based on the fact the same ship takes 23 hours to travel 902 nautical miles from Miami to san juan, the basic calculation allows us to estimate the ships average speed would be circa 39.2 nautical kilometres per hour. Accepting this assumed speed as the average speed, we can expect the distance of San Juan to St tHomas to be approximately 588 nautical mile. CORRECTION: Poster errs by switching from nautical miles to nautical kilometers (100 NM=115 statute miles=184Km). The 39.2 calculation would be knots (NM/hr, not NKm/hr). Poster also assumes ship is steaming at close to full throttle on both legs of the trip which is incorrect. Distance between San Juan PR & St. Thomas USVI is approx. 90 statute miles (78.2 NM, 144 Km).
