Would that hose be 5" inside diameter, or outside? If the hose is 5" outside diameter, what it the wall thickness?

What makes you think that there is any water in the hose? Maybe the hose is new and never been used.

2.29 gallons in a fully expanded, 3/4 inch ID hose. If you have a different internal diameter, remember that Pi X the radius^2 X length of hose gives you a volume in cubic inches, then convert the volume in inches to gallons.
