Dynamite's active ingredient is nitroglycerin (the rest is just to stabilize the nitroglycerin); in the explosion, the nitroglycerin reacts thus;

C3H5(NO3)3 → 3CO2 + 2.5H2O + 1.5N2 + 0.25O2

so YES its a chemical reaction.
