A phenotype is the trait that actually gets expressed in an organism. organisms inherit a genotype from their parents: they get versions of the gene from both their mother and their father, and only one of those versions of the gene will actually express itself. which gene expresses itself is determined by the dominance of the the two genes - which ever trait is more dominant is more likely to be expressed - and by interactions with other genes.
