It was Albert Ghiorso who discovered or co-discovered the most elements, 12.As a member of both the Manhattan Project, and later a researcher at UC Berkeley, Ghiorso and his teams uncovered elements 95 (americium) through 106 (seaborgium). All of them are radioactive; and all of them are man-made, having long since decayed in nature.Of them, americium has seen the greatest commercial use, being found in most modern smoke detectors.
About 28 elements were discovered in the laboratory. But after the man made preparation some elements were discovered also in nature in very extremely traces: Pm, Tc, Pu, Np, Am, Cm, Bk.
