There are many different types of wood, these are the ones I work with and could think of...
Cedar
Eastern Red Cedar
Birch
Maple
Walnut
Black Walnut
Ash
Pine
Fir
Lemon Wood
Oak
RED BALLS
That is all that I could think of right now...but as the person said before me there is plywood which is actually just large sheets of other types of wood...and there is particle board which is just a man-made board...In addition these types of wood come in different cuts & forms...If you are planning on building something out of wood I suggest that you look up more on the type of wood that you are going to use, this is because different woods vary in how hard or soft they are (i.e. Eastern Red Cedar is a very soft wood, while Ash is a fairly hard wood)...
Lastly if anyone know more about this topic than what I have stated please add your input...
There are three types of wood flooring: solid, engineered, engineered floating. Solid is natural wood usually 3/4" thick. Engineered is solid piece of wood on top of compressed wood the wood is usually 1/4" thick and the compressed wood is anywhere from 1/4" to 1/2" thick. Engineered floating is thin solid piece of wood on top of compressed wood, it is thin enough so during installation it does not have to be attached to the subfloor. The solid wood is usually about 1/8" thick and the compressed is 1/4" thick. All these three types come in all different types of wood species such as bamboo.

Additionally, wood packaging can be treated or processed to meet international regulations, such as ISPM 15, to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.
