It is not known for certain that the story of Newton and the apple is true. We can not therefore know what he was thinking or doing.

In the popular imagination, he is sitting under a tree and contemplating the question of why the moon does not fall to earth.

It was indeed true that the question of the moon's orbit was a motivating factor in the process that lead to his identification of the law of gravity that bears his name. We don't know about the tree story though.

No, many people believe that an apple fell onto his head but the true thing was that the apple didn't hit his head. When i was in grade 5, i always thought it was true and find it a bit funny. But it believes that the apple LANDED Next him and that's when he thought about that apple and wondered how it happens.
