Controlling variables are factors or conditions whose effects are being tested.

In an experiment, you will have something you are testing, and then you will have a control, to see if the thing you are testing performs differently than the normal way, so it can be confusing. If you are changing the variables, you are controlling them, but the "control" is the part of the experiment that you are *not* messing with.

What is the controlling variables?

Controlled variables are quantities that a scientist wants to remain constant and observe as carefully as the dependent variables.

What is the difference between controlling variables and using controls?

Controlling variables is when you make sure that only one variable is being tested at a time and that there are not other variables that will make your results unclear. Using a control is when you do a trial without the variable to see what the normal results are.

Why is important to control variables in an experiment?

So that you can know what is the manipulating variable, the controlling variable, and the responding variable! To control the variables!

To eliminate alternative explanations for the result of an experiment

What is controlling manipulating and responding variables?

Controlling Variables are the variables that stay the same. The Manipulated Variable is the variable that you changed on purpose. There can only be one manipulated variable. The Responding Variable is the variable that was changed due to the experiment. For example, if you were testing how fast ice melts with differet materials, the responding variable would be the time it took for the ice to melt. Again, there can only be one responding variable.

What is analysis of covariance used for?

Analysis of covariance is used to test the main and interaction effects of categorical variables on a continuous dependent variable, controlling for the effects of selected other continuous variables, which co-vary with the dependent. The control variables are called the "covariates."
