Here is a list of the names of famous scientists (in alphabetical order of the first name):Albert EinsteinAlfred NobelAntoine LavoisierArchimedesAristotleCharles DarwinEdward JennerErnest RutherfordGalileo GalileiGeorge OhmIsaac NewtonJohannes KeplerLouis PasteurMarie CurieMichael FaradayNicholas CopernicusNiels BohrThales
It is called the Periodic Table of Elements.
Some well known modern day scientists are Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, and plenty others( please add some more).
His father was also named Isaac Newton. His mother was named Mrs Hannah Newton. -Lyss
The reason is because it is a system that uses letters called chemical symbols, which are a shortned way of writing the names of elements.
The elements in the periodic table were named by various scientists and researchers based on their properties, origins, or characteristics, rather than by nicknames. The nicknames for some elements have been given by scientists, but they are not the official names listed in the periodic table.
- from the names of planets - from the name of scientists - from toponyms - from mythology - from some characteristics of the chemical elements - from old words (in Greek, Latin, Arabian, Persan)
The actinides are a series of 15 radioactive elements, the group gets its name from the element Actinium. The elements are Actinium, Thorium, Protactinium, Uranium, Neptunium, Plutonium, Americium, Curium, Berkelium, Californium, Einsteinium, Fermium, Mendelevium, Nobelium and Lawrencium. Six of the elements of this group got their names from renowned scientists, Curium was named after Marie and Pierre Curie; the Einsteinium was named after Albert Einstein; Fermium was named after Enrico Fermi; the Mendelevium was named after Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev; the Nobelium after Alfred Nobel and Lawrencium is named after Ernest Lawrence.
These names are the names of chemical elements.
Many elements were known and named in prehistory or in very early times and their names - or variations - are in use now. In several cases, we use an English name but the symbol is based on the Latin name - for example gold is Au (Aurum).Names for newly discovered elements have to be approved by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). According to IUPAC rules, elements can be named after a mythological concept, a mineral, a place or country, a property, or a scientist.
Many elements names are of Greek and Latin words. Some elements are name after where named after countries like France, German ect.
These names were established to honor the memory of great scientists in chemistry or physics.
Latin was one of the first languages. Many other languages have Latin roots. And Not all the elements have Latin names. Some are named after famous people and scientist. Such as Einsteinium.
Elements are named based on various factors such as their discovery, properties, origin, or historical context. Some elements are named after scientists, places, mythological figures, or even colors. The names of elements are often derived from Latin or Greek roots to reflect their characteristics or properties.
Most elements are named either as:Their Latin name's first or first and second letterFor example, Potassium in Latin is "Kalium" (Ka).Their regular name's first or first and second letterFor example, Calcium is "Ca".
Some elements are named after the compound that they came from, or some attribute of it. Other elements are named after some aspect of the way in which the element was found. Still, there are other elements that get their names from places. Another interesting group of names comes from mythology. -Nev Singhota
Earth names for some alien elements are Ununpentium (Uup) for Element 115, Moscovium (Mc) for Element 115, and Copernicium (Cn) for Element 112. These names are derived from the cities or scientists associated with the discovery of these elements on Earth.
