Example: Based on what I have seen, tested, and measured, I say that the 50-50 mixture of strawberry ice cream with chocolate ice cream produces grey ice cream. I used Dreier's ice cream in my tests.
I will try to prove that hypothesis as wrong, wrong, wrong by redoing the tests and using new tests. I get the same results.
I will invite others to prove that my grey ice cream hypothesis is wrong by doing THEIR tests and measurements.
When I publish the results, I am forced to modify the hypothesis or give up on it because everyone else's tests and observations of many brands of ice cream show that a mixture of strawberry and chocolate ice cream is close to grey, but not exactly. Darn!
