1. Develop a hypothesis (a "what if" statement) based on observations and research. (Most people mistakenly call this a "Theory", but it's not)

2. Do your best to prove that your hypothesis is wrong. (Nope, it is NOT to prove it right the way many believe).

3. Invite others to "test" your hypothesis by trying to prove it is wrong.

Example: Based on what I have seen, tested, and measured, I say that the 50-50 mixture of strawberry ice cream with chocolate ice cream produces grey ice cream. I used Dreier's ice cream in my tests.

I will try to prove that hypothesis as wrong, wrong, wrong by redoing the tests and using new tests. I get the same results.

I will invite others to prove that my grey ice cream hypothesis is wrong by doing THEIR tests and measurements.

When I publish the results, I am forced to modify the hypothesis or give up on it because everyone else's tests and observations of many brands of ice cream show that a mixture of strawberry and chocolate ice cream is close to grey, but not exactly. Darn!
